UM BWMC Achieves Pathway To Excellence Designation

Posted

University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center (UM BWMC) has joined a premier group of organizations that have received the Pathway to Excellence designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). UM BWMC is just the third hospital in Maryland to receive the Pathway to Excellence designation from ANCC.

To qualify for designation, organizations must meet six practice standards essential to an ideal nursing practice environment: shared decision-making, leadership, safety, quality, well-being and professional development. Organizations must submit 69 exemplary stories with evidence and complete an independent, confidential nurse survey to validate the stories and give nurses a voice.

As a Pathway organization, UM BWMC leads the effort to enhance quality of care, patient and nursing safety, and the future of health care delivery.

“The Pathway designation is a distinctive status that highlights UM BWMC’s commitment to creating a healthy work environment where nurses feel empowered and valued,” said David Hunt, senior vice president and chief nursing officer at UM BWMC. “Our nurses are an integral part of the health care team, with a voice in policy and practice. Through shared governance and multidisciplinary teamwork, they provide high-quality, compassionate, and evidenced-based patient and family care.”
