SPHS Prepares For One Act Play Night

Posted

This January, join the Severna Park High School community in watching the 48th annual One Act Play Night, consisting of three 30-minute plays, all of which are completely student-produced.

“Check Please,” directed by senior Gordon Mutch, is a comedy piece about blind dating. When asked if directing 14 of his peers was a difficult experience, Mutch said that although he has given them notes, “they’re all so talented already that the changes have been minor.”

Senior Rachel Hartley has seized the opportunity of working behind the scenes, rather than in the spotlight. “Old Goat Song” is a dramatic piece that jumps between the 1940s and the 1960s. Although some darker topics are touched upon in this show, Hartley said “having the opportunity to direct a play of my own choice has been extremely exciting.”

The third and final one-act of the night is “Where Troubles Melt Like Lemon Drops.” Written and directed by junior Lucy Feldmann, this piece is a whodunit with characters who are loosely based off of the classic film “The Wizard of Oz.” When asked what her favorite part of this experience has been, aside from working with her cast, Feldmann said “it’s been incredible to watch my vision come to life.”

This year, for the first time, the cast of “A Midsummer Night's Dream” will perform while the judges deliberate.

Make sure to see the talent and hard work of SP Stage Company students this January 10 at 7:00pm. Tickets are $5 at the door. For more information, go to www.sphsdrama.com.
