SPCC Hosts First-Drive-By Gala Fundraiser Oct. 24

The Severna Park Community Center (SPCC) will host its inaugural drive-by gala to raise funds for operations and much-needed repairs.

“With the continuing concern around COVID-19, we felt that our annual fundraising gala event could better serve the community if we could run the event virtually – but with a twist”, said SPCC Executive Director Sarah Elder.

The gala committee, led by SPCC board members Ellen Kleinknecht, Patt Haun and Diane Lebedeff, helped to develop this unusual twist on a virtual event. While event guests will stay in their cars, they will be treated to a gala-in-a-box to take home – complete with a $50 gift certificate from local dining establishments. With that dinner certificate, they will get a small bottle of champagne or prosecco, a champagne flute, and a dessert from a local bakery or sweets company.

The drive-by hours, between 3:00pm and 5:00pm, will also feature live music, festive decorations and special guest presenters.

This year’s fundraiser gala will help to fill the gap in operating funds caused by the recent emergency pool renovations. “The main pool at SPCC is a vital service for the community, and we knew that despite the timing of this major renovation, the work needed to be done now,” said board chairman David Orso. “We are so blessed to have such an amazing facility right here in the heart of Anne Arundel County.”

Tickets are $100 each and are on sale at the center’s website (www.spcommunitycenter.org).

“We couldn’t be more thrilled with the response from the local community for this event,” said gala committee member Larry Sells. “Our restaurant partners are each contributing a set number of gift certificates, so don’t wait to buy a ticket for your favorite!”
