Spalding Grads Join Forces For SUNY Maritime Baseball

Three collegiate student-athletes with local roots shared accomplishments on March 20 as Archbishop Spalding alumni Nick Schepens (Spalding ’20), Jaden Shea (Spalding ’20) and Austen Bishop (Spalding ’19) all played significant roles in a pair of season-opening wins for the State University of New York Maritime College baseball team.

Shea started at second base in SUNY Maritime’s 2-0 and 8-7 wins over Purchase College, while Bishop started at designated hitter and right field, and Schepens, a freshman left-handed pitcher, started at pitcher in the second game of the doubleheader.

The three former Cavs teammates were together in a starting lineup for the first time since high school, but this time it came at the Division-III level. Shea went 2-for-3 with three runs scored in the second game of the doubleheader, in which Schepens recorded two strikeouts.

Bishop, a sophomore, is majoring in marine transportation. Shea (majoring in mechanical engineering) and Schepens (majoring in electrical engineering) are part of SUNY Maritime’s prized freshman recruiting class.
