Students and staff at St. John the Evangelist School learned about a big honor on September 23: St. John was named a National Blue Ribbon school for the second time and for the first time since 2008. The United States Department of Education’s award program honors high-performing schools and those that are making great strides in closing achievement gaps.
St. John the Evangelist faculty and staff were joined by St. John Principal Glenna Blessing; Donna Hargens, superintendent of schools for the Archdiocese of Baltimore; and the Rev. Erik Arnold during the announcement. Altogether, 356 schools earned the 2024 award, including 10 from Maryland. Of the 10 schools from Maryland, five were Catholic schools from the Archdiocese of Baltimore. St. Mary's in Annapolis was the only other public or private school from Anne Arundel County to be recognized.
