Holiday Hacks: Take The Stress Out Of The Holidays

Posted

Try these tips and tricks to make the most out of this holiday season.

Decorating Hacks

Having trouble hanging Christmas lights on brick? Hot glue won't damage the lights or the brick, and it peels off when taking down the lights at the end of the season.

If a Christmas tree looks like something from a Charlie Brown cartoon, pick up a pack of green tinsel. Once the tree is wrapped, it will automatically look fuller. The tinsel can be sturdy enough to hold a few small ornaments.

Reuse egg cartoons to store small ornaments without taking up space. For larger ornaments, try placing them in plastic cups to keep them safe and organized in storage.

Tired of untangling Christmas lights every year? Wrap the lights around a clothes hanger to keep them from getting mixed together in storage. They can be hung in a closet for the season, or laid neatly in a box. Christmas lights can also be wrapped around cardboard or an empty paper towel holder.

Travel Hacks

When flying this holiday season, hold off on wrapping gifts. Airport security will have to unwrap them. Try folding wrapping paper neatly in a suitcase for when you arrive at your destination.

Bring a small box of activities for children on long car rides. Crayons, books, stickers and small toys will keep their minds off of the drive. Snacks are also a great distraction.

Being limited to one carry-on isn’t easy, but it can make a difference, especially during the holidays. It eliminates the risk of losing the suitcase, makes security quicker, and you won’t be stuck waiting for luggage when you reach your destination.

Make sure all electronics are fully charged, and bring portable chargers to avoid being stuck on a car ride without navigation. Besides, cellphones make the time go by faster on road trips and plane rides.

Gift Wrapping Hacks

There is nothing worse than having to find the end of a roll of tape. Attach a paper clip to the end of every roll to avoid losing it.

Having trouble wrapping an awkward box? Turning the paper diagonally creates more room to fold the sides.

Wrapping paper is one the hardest things to organize. Try cutting an old toilet paper roll down the center to keep the paper from unrolling. Wrapping paper can also be stored in a garment bag to keep it out of the way and prevent damage.
