Four Rivers Garden Club Grant Supports Native Habitat For Baltimore Checkerspot Butterfly

In the spring of 2020, with the help of a grant from the Four Rivers Garden Club, a new pollinator garden was installed at St. Luke's Church in Eastport (1101 Bay Ridge Avenue).

The new pollinator garden was planted in April 2020 by a group of students associated with the church and members of the Anne Arundel Master Gardeners. The garden focused on attracting the Baltimore checkerspot butterfly, the official arthropodic emblem of Maryland, with native perennial plants, such as the white turtlehead. The group supplemented the flowerbed with milkweed and penstemon, which have colorful flowers and are sources of nectar.

Four Rivers Garden Club, a local member of the nonprofit Federated Garden Clubs of Maryland, awards grants annually for qualifying garden projects of area nonprofit organizations.
