Falcon Girls Cruising In Dominant Start To Season

The last glimpses of the Severna Park girls lacrosse team saw the squad hoisting a championship trophy.

So far in 2024, the Falcons are laying down a marker that they are once again the team to beat in the 3A field.

“We’ve been grinding ever since November, getting ready for the season to start, so we were excited,” said senior standout Alyssa Gore-Chung. “Severna Park is lacrosse, and lacrosse is Severna Park.”

Severna Park, ranked 13th in USA Lacrosse’s April 4 public school rankings and in the “others receiving consideration” category for the combined public/private Top 25, are 6-0 and rolling into the teeth of their schedule. They’ve netted at least 12 goals in every game, including beating last year’s 4A runner-up Dulaney 12-9 and USA Lacrosse’s 22nd-ranked team in the nation, Glenelg, 14-9.

The Falcons opened the season with a 13-2 win over Arundel, in which Gore-Chung scored four goals and assisted on four others. Sara Kreis had three goals, while Maria Bragg and Erin Hussey netted twice. Francesca Dunoyer and Lizzie Thompson also found the net for Severna Park, while Allison Schiavone made four saves.

In addition to those three wins, Severna Park also beat Howard and Fallston by identical 17-5 counts, and North County 18-3.

Though the Falcons graduated some key components to last season’s squad, the talented and seasoned senior class is relishing its opportunity to shine.

“Being on the field last year, playing with such talented people, and doing it again this year, we’ve put so much time and effort into these kinds of games,” Kreis said. “We knew how to set the tempo, and we know how to move on and get even stronger going forward.”

Severna Park’s schedule beefs up the next three games. The Falcons hosted Marriotts Ridge on April 8, and they’ll host Broadneck on April 12 and go to South River on April 16.
