Annapolis Jazz & Roots Presents “Moon Dance: A Summer Concert” In Eastport

Music lovers are invited to celebrate the anniversary of the Apollo 11 space mission with an evening of pop, rock and jazz associated with the epic voyage that allowed American astronauts to walk on the moon for the first time in 1969.

Featuring Theresa Sise and Sweet Tea, the “moon dance” event will take place July 20 from 7:00pm to 9:00pm at Eastport United Methodist Church.

Participants can relax at a table and get up to dance should the spirit move them. They’ll hear some of the same tunes enjoyed by the astronauts in outer space such as the Frank Sinatra hit "Fly Me to the Moon" and “Everyday People” by Sly and the Family Stone. Van Morrison's "Moondance" and chestnuts like “It’s Only a Paper Moon” will add a touch of nostalgia.

The show features pianist Darius Scott, drummer Nick Costa and bassist Mike Graham Jr. A vocalist, Sise will celebrate her July 20 birthday, so while delicious mocktails and other refreshments will be sold, servings of birthday cake will be free.

Proceeds from the summer concert will benefit the Annapolis Jazz & Roots Festival, to be held at multiple sites in Eastport on weekends from November 2-12. International performers join local artists to perform in free and ticketed events. Presenting partners include Alkebulan, Eastport-Annapolis Neck Library, Eastport United Methodist Church, Jazz Beyond Borders, Peerless Rens and St. Luke’s Episcopal Church.

The July 20 event is suitable for adults and teens. Admission is $25 in advance and $35 at the door. Tickets are available from www.instantseats.com. Select the venue “Annapolis Jazz & Roots.”

Eastport United Methodist Church is located at 926 Bay Ridge Avenue, Annapolis, MD 21403. There is ample free parking in the rear lot of the church.
